"Baseball bat" was invented by Bruce R. Leinert (Dover Plains, N.Y.).

According to the abstract* released by the U.S. Patent & Trademark Office: "Baseball bats described herein may have handle, throat and/or barrel portions that include non-circular cross-sections."
