"Weightlifting apparatus" was invented by Nazim Guity (Hopewell Junction, N.Y.).
According to the abstract* released by the U.S. Patent & Trademark Office: "A weightlifting apparatus includes a weight belt having a body portion extending between opposed first and second ends. The weight belt includes a strap that extends away from a first end and includes a buckle proximate the second end, said strap and buckle being configured to engage about a weightlifter's waist or released to be removed from the weightlifter's waist.
