According to the abstract* released by the U.S. Patent & Trademark Office: "A transition coupling assembly for use in the construction of a concrete floor containing vertical pipe stubs. A transition coupling body is used to cap a vertical pipe during the pouring of the slab. After the concrete floor is finished, a thin layer of concrete may be removed from above the cover and then the cover is removed to reveal an opening leading to the second end of the coupling.
