"Mounting bracket" was invented by Robert O. Duff (Apple Valley, Minn.).

According to the abstract* released by the U.S. Patent & Trademark Office: "A doorstop system includes a doorstop and a bracket. The doorstop includes a foot, a recess area within the foot, an opening in a bottom surface of the foot around the recess area, and pockets in opposite sides of the recess area extending to the bottom surface of the foot. The bracket is sized to fit into the recess area of the doorstop and includes a body and protrusions on opposite sides of the body. The protrusions are positioned and sized to mate with the doorstop pockets."
