ALEXANDRIA, Va., June 25 -- United States Patent no. 12,337,079, issued on June 24.

"Shield for recurrent laryngeal nerve and associated methods" was invented by James Glenn Norman (Tampa, Fla.).

According to the abstract* released by the U.S. Patent & Trademark Office: "A method includes covering or contacting a portion of a recurrent laryngeal nerve of a subject with a shield including extraembryonic tissue. The covering occurs during a neck or reconstructive surgery of the subject."

The patent was filed on Aug. 19, 2021, under Application No. 17/406,634.
