According to the abstract* released by the U.S. Patent & Trademark Office: "An overhead door safety support for overhead garage doors. The overhead door safety support includes a metal frame arm, a limit switch, a mounting assembly, a junction box, a spring-loaded garage door receiving piece, a plurality of hinges, a hand lock, and a stabilizing foot. The overhead door safety support is configured to prevent a garage door from unintentionally closing and provides a visual indication of a safe condition of the garage door."
