According to the abstract* released by the U.S. Patent & Trademark Office: "A crank sleeve having a first open-sided hollow cylinder having an open slot extending along its length, and a second open-sided hollow cylinder having an open slot extending along its length and fixed at a right angle to a second end of the second hollow cylinder to provide a continuous open slot from an open first end of the first hollow cylinder to an open second end of the second hollow cylinder.
