ALEXANDRIA, Va., July 30 -- United States Patent no. 12,369,686, issued on July 29.

"Tripod running shoes" was invented by Jim De Wilde (Oldsmar, Fla.) and Tom De Wilde (Oldsmar, Fla.).

According to the abstract* released by the U.S. Patent & Trademark Office: "A running shoe having an improved sole including one or more cushioning elements disposed at or around one or more of the foot's tripod strike points, wherein such cushioning elements may optionally be connected to each other by one or more bridges and the region bounded by the cushioning elements is vertically enlarged to provide added space for various structures of the foot to deform."

The patent was filed on Aug. 29, 2022, under Application No. 17/898,361.
