According to the abstract* released by the U.S. Patent & Trademark Office: "A ring gear for a planetary gearset and a transmission having the same. The planetary gearset receives an input via a sun shaft to supply an output via a carrier in response to arresting of rotation of the ring gear around an axis. The ring gear includes a plurality of tooth surfaces and opposing tooth surfaces that are distributed around the axis.
