ALEXANDRIA, Va., Feb. 3 -- United States Patent no. 12,538,908, issued on Feb. 3.

"Retractable barb fish hook" was invented by Tim Drinkard (Oskaloosa, Kan.).

According to the abstract* released by the U.S. Patent & Trademark Office: "A retractable barb fish hook and associated components and methods. The fish hook can include a body and an insert. The insert is movable relative to the body to deform a barb to facilitate removal of the hook."

The patent was filed on Nov. 23, 2022, under Application No. 18/058,514.
