ALEXANDRIA, Va., Feb. 3 -- United States Patent no. 12,539,137, issued on Feb. 3.
"Method and catheter for creating an interatrial aperture" was invented by Gil M. Vardi (Town and country, Mo.) and Chris Minar (Excelsior, Minn.).
According to the abstract* released by the U.S. Patent & Trademark Office: "A catheter device 10 with a cutting structure or means 16 on the distal portion 14 is disclosed, along with a medical procedure for using the device. The catheter 10 is configured in such a way as to create a permanent interatrial aperture in the heart, including creating a permanent interatrial hole and/or removing tissue."
The patent was filed on Dec. 24, 2023, under Application No. 18/395,572.
