"Multi-purpose paint can tool" was invented by Craig Lombard (North Andover, Mass.).

According to the abstract* released by the U.S. Patent & Trademark Office: "A device for opening and closing a paint can without damage to the paint can lid or paint can. The device can also perforate the paint can with holes around the perimeter of the paint can rim so that paint in the rim can return to the paint can. The device includes a T-shaped base with a can opener at the lower end of the T, two perforating spikes on the bottom, four bumpers for closing the paint can, and a magnet for holding the device to a paint can."
