According to the abstract* released by the U.S. Patent & Trademark Office: "A tethered pencil device is provided. The device is primarily comprised of a body, a tether anchor, a base, an eraser, and a tip. The body is preferably made of a metal or rigid plastic material and retains all the functions of any pencil known in the art. A tether connects the body of the device to the base, which is attached to a desk or other workstation. A button may be pressed to protrude a lead from the device in which a user may write.
