ALEXANDRIA, Va., Feb. 11 -- United States Patent no. 12,547,044, issued on Feb. 10.

"Optical waveguide terminators with doped waveguides" was invented by Long Chen (Marlboro, N.J.).

According to the abstract* released by the U.S. Patent & Trademark Office: "Disclosed herein are methods, structures, apparatus and devices for the termination of unused waveguide ports in planar photonic integrated circuits with doped waveguides such that free-carrier absorption therein may advantageously absorb any undesired optical power resulting in a significant reduction of stray light and resulting reflections."

The patent was filed on April 21, 2023, under Application No. 18/137,632.
