"Method for nail manicuring" was invented by Jacqueline A. Smith (Wheaton, Ill.).
According to the abstract* released by the U.S. Patent & Trademark Office: "A nail manicure method comprising applying a protective coating to portions of the surface of a finger or toe nail or a cuticle adjacent thereto where the application of nail polish is not desired, optionally manipulating the protective coating into a desired shape, and applying nail polish to regions not covered by the protective coating. Once the nail polish has at least partially dried, the protective coating is removed to reveal an underlying area with defined regions of nail polish."
