According to the abstract* released by the U.S. Patent & Trademark Office: "An exhaust vent is provided including a first portion inserted through an opening in an outer wall of a structure for fluidly connecting to an appliance to be vented within the structure, a second portion fluidly connected to the first portion at a junction and having an open end opening into the atmosphere, a flap disposed at the junction configured to open by pressure from exhaust air directed through the first portion from the appliance and allow the exhaust air to pass through the second portion and be vented...
