"Combination chair backpack" was invented by Jerry R. Seaman (Fairmount, Ill.).

According to the abstract* released by the U.S. Patent & Trademark Office: "A combination chair backpack is carried as a backpack and is converted into a chair without the user having to manually unfold the chair while standing beside it. The combination chair backpack has a backrest portion and a seat portion connected by a hinge. A backpack-position cord raises and lowers the seat portion and also engages a latch securing the seat portion in the backpack position. A chair-position cord releases a latch securing the hinge in the chair position."
