ALEXANDRIA, Va., Aug. 20 -- United States Patent no. 12,389,891, issued on Aug. 19.
"Artificial bait" was invented by Gary Heines (Mound, Minn.), Brett Herdendorf (Mound, Minn.) and Riyan Mendonsa (Edina, Minn.).
According to the abstract* released by the U.S. Patent & Trademark Office: "An artificial bait having a housing which includes a power source, an electric motor, a controller, a coil, a magnet connected to a movable portion of the housing and a hook, wherein the controller alternates a current produced by the electric motor to cause the movable portion of the housing to move back and forth."
The patent was filed on Sept. 18, 2023, under Application No. 18/369,703.
