ALEXANDRIA, Va., April 9 -- United States Patent no. 12,270,621, issued on April 8.
"Ammunition magazine and follower" was invented by Kevin Philbin (Glenview, Ill.), Scott Richard Gherardini (Hoffman Estates, Ill.) and Michael Burke Irwin (Bagdad, Ky.).
According to the abstract* released by the U.S. Patent & Trademark Office: "The present disclosure provides ammunition magazines and followers for use in a firearm, such as an AR15 or M16 firearm, that prevent contact between the bullet portion of a cartridge and interior surfaces of the firearm's receiver portion during transfer of the cartridge from the magazine to the firearm's chamber."
The patent was filed on Oct. 2, 2023, under Application No. 18/479,812.
