"Shoe with detachable sock" was invented by Margaret Woodbury (White Plains, N.Y.).

According to the abstract* released by the U.S. Patent & Trademark Office: "A footwear combination that includes a base shoe that may be combined with plural different fitted socks to accommodate plural outfits, depending upon the fitted sock that is combined with the shoe. The fitted socks are detachable from the shoe (e.g., for washing and change of outfitting).
