ARLINGTON, Mass., Feb. 7 -- The town of Arlington issued the following news release:

The Town of Arlington has initiated a program to reduce the amount inflow entering the sewer system. Inflow is stormwater that enters the sanitary sewer system through sewer manhole covers and/or illicit stormwater connections, including sump pumps, driveway drains, yard drains, and roof leaders. Removing inflow sources from the sewer system reduces the likelihood of sewer backups and overflows, which protects our streams and ponds and reduces sewer operation and maintenance costs.
