U.S. Senator Amy Klobuchar (D-MN) released the following statement on the five-year anniversary of the January 6, 2021 insurrection at the U.S. Capitol:
"Americans will never forget what happened on January 6, 2021: Violent insurrectionists attacked our democracy and stormed the Capitol with the goal of overturning a free and fair election. Thanks to the heroism of our Capitol Police officers, democracy prevailed. Five years later, it remains incumbent on all of us to ensure what happened that day never happens again.
