Arizona Senator Mark Kelly joined members of Congress in introducing a bipartisan, bicameral resolution recognizing the 50th anniversary of the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA) and the historic step this legislation took by mandating that every child with a disability in America be given equal access to a free, appropriate public education.
Enacted in 1975, IDEA is the foundation of special education in the United States. IDEA requires states and school districts to provide eligible children with public education, including special education services.
