WASHINGTON, Sept. 30 -- Internal Revenue Service has issued a proposed rule called: Preparer Tax Identification Number (PTIN) User Fee Update.

The proposed rule was published in the Federal Register on Sept. 30 by Edward T. Killen, Acting Chief Tax Compliance Officer.

Summary: In the Rules and Regulations section of this issue of the Federal Register, the Department of the Treasury (Treasury Department) and the IRS are issuing interim final regulations that amend the current regulations to reduce from $11 to $10 the amount of the user fee imposed on tax return preparers to apply for or renew a preparer tax identification number (PTIN).
