SPRINGFIELD, Ill., April 27 -- The Illinois Courts Office issued the following opinion on March 27:

1. Following a bench trial, defendant, William P. Bishop, was found guilty but mentally ill of first degree murder (720 ILCS 5/9-1(a)(2) (West 2020)), a Class M felony, and guilty of aggravated driving under the influence (DUI) (625 ILCS 5/11-501(a) (West 2020)), a Class 4 felony. The trial court rejected defendant's insanity defense, finding that he did not prove by clear and convincing evidence that he lacked the substantial capacity to appreciate the criminality of his conduct at the time of the offense.
