WASHINGTON, Dec. 5 -- Sen. Martin Heinrich issued the following news release:
U.S. Senator Martin Heinrich (D-N.M.) sent a letter to U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) Secretary Robert F. Kennedy, Jr. demanding action from the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) on preterm infant formula. Heinrich's demand comes in the wake of over 1,000 lawsuits against preterm infant formula manufacturers in the United States, stemming from failures to warn parents of the increased risk of a serious gastrointestinal illness, necrotizing enterocolitis, associated with the use of non-human milk-derived fortifiers.
