Former Governor Branstad's being honored today. Before I read that tribute about his honoring today, I thought I'd give a little bit of background about what I know about former Governor Branstad.
I first met State Representative Terry Branstad [in] January 1973, when he was a new member of the legislature. He would tell you that I actually spoke to a group of Republicans that he was in at the University of Iowa in 1966. I'll take his word for that.
He served six years in the state legislature. Then, we used to elect our lieutenant governor, separate from the governor, and he served four years as lieutenant governor.
