Brief Summary: In patients with valvular heart disease and atrial fibrillation (AF) undergoing surgical valve surgery, current guidelines recommend concomitant surgical management of the left atrial appendage (LAA) to prevent postoperative thromboembolic events, particularly neurologic embolic events.
