Moscow, July 23 -- Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy's hasty signing of the law on restricting anti-corruption bodies may be due to the fact that the National Anti-Corruption Bureau of Ukraine (NABU) has launched an investigation against members of his inner circle, The Economist magazine reported, citing sources.
On Tuesday, the Ukrainian parliament passed a bill that limits the autonomy of the NABU and the Special Anti-Corruption Prosecutor's Office (SAP). Several lawmakers criticized the government for trying to terminate the anti-corruption watchdogs. Later, Zelenskyy signed the bill into law.
