Chandigarh, April 1 -- Tensions have flared in Amritsar following the death of a young man in police custody who was arrested in connection with the cutting of electricity lines at the residence of late District Manager (DM) Gagandeep Singh Randhawa. The deceased was one of the two suspects apprehended by the Ranjit Avenue police after CCTV footages allegedly captured them tampering with the power connections at the high-profile residence.
The incident has triggered a major controversy, with the family of the deceased levelling serious allegations of custodial torture against the local police.
