Srinagar, Sept. 20 -- A young Army officer, posted along the Line of Control in Jammu and Kashmir's Kupwara district, died in the line of duty, officials said.
They said Major Apraant Raunaq Singh, in his 30s, a resident of Banaras posted in the Nowgam sector, fell ill last evening and was immediately evacuated by helicopter to the Army's 92 Base Hospital in Srinagar for treatment. Despite medical efforts, he succumbed to his illness.
Nowgam sector, located in Kupwara district, however, comes under the operational jurisdiction of the Baramulla-based 19 Infantry Division.
The Army confirmed that Major Singh made the supreme sacrifice in the line of duty.
