Kochi, Aug. 8 -- When Patrick Freeman traveled all the way from Sierra Leone in West Africa to the Amrita Hospital here with his ailing brother Victor, who was suffering from a severe lung condition, he had little hope left.

For over three years, Victor had battled persistent cough, breathing difficulties, and pneumonia, seeking treatment from various hospitals across Africa- with no relief.

By the time they reached a hospital in Turkey for expert care, the disease had advanced so much that Victor began coughing up blood. A CT scan taken there revealed something serious within his lungs, but the exact diagnosis remained elusive.
