New Delhi, Dec. 17 -- : The Delhi government approved the deployment of 32 high-capacity, modern machines to curb pollution at its source from drains. The mechanised cleaning equipment is slated to become operational from March, marking a shift from announcements to on-ground action backed by technology and monitoring.
The initiative aims to prevent untreated sludge, silt and solid waste from flowing into the Yamuna by intensifying mechanised desilting and cleaning of major drains. The operation will begin with the Najafgarh Drain, the largest contributor to pollution in the river, and will later be expanded in phases to other major drains and identified stretches of the Yamuna.
