London, March 6 -- Chelsea moved eight points clear at the top of the Women's Super League with a nervy victory over Leicester City at Kingsmeadow.

Leicester came into the game as one of only two sides, alongside Brighton last Sunday, to take points off Chelsea this season and again caused problems for Sonia Bompastor's team, the BBC report.

Chelsea went ahead early on when Catarina Macario's deflected free kick looped over Janina Leitzig but from there they were restricted well by an organised Leicester.

That was in part due to the impressive tenacity of England midfielder Ruby Mace, but she was stretchered off late in the first half with a knee injury after overextending in a tackle.
