Mumbai, June 21 -- To improve surveillance and safety measures in operations of trains, the Western Railway (WR) is planning to install artificial intelligence (AI)-based cameras on 978 of its freight and passenger engines shortly. The engines includes 810 electric engine and 168 diesel engine, officials said on Saturday.

Vineet Abhishek, Chief Public Relations Officer, Western Railway, said the cameras will be installed to monitor activity both in and around the engines, across all regions, including Mumbai. The total cost of it will be around Rs 100 crore.
