World Sickle Cell Disease Awareness Day, sickle cell disease ups the risk of COVID-19: Expert
Pune, June 18 -- Amidst reported rise in Covid-19 cases in Maharashtra, individuals with sickle cell disease (SCD) are more vulnerable to Covid-19 infections than the general public because they are immuno compromised, said Dr Naresh Purohit, adviser, National Communicable Disease Control Programme, on Wednesday.
Hence, they must exercise caution during this period and ensure to follow protocols including masking, social distancing and handwashing to avert the risk, he informed.
