World merchandise trade is expected to grow at 0.9 pc in 2025: WTO
New Delhi, Aug. 11 -- The World Trade Organization (WTO) projected that the global merchandise trade is to grow 0.9 per cent in 2025. This optimistic surge is fueled by rising imports in the United States.
The WTO said in an official statement: " World merchandise trade is now projected to grow 0.9% in 2025, up from the -0.2% contraction forecast in April but down from the 2.7% estimate pre-dating the tariff increases."
Economists at the WTO pointed out that higher tariffs over time will weigh on trade and affect the upcoming year's prediction.
