Paris, June 26 -- The World Bank and the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) today
signed an agreement to jointly support safe, secure and responsible use of nuclear energy in
developing countries.
The agreement, signed by World Bank President Ajay Banga and IAEA Director General Rafael Mariano Grossi, reflects a new, broader approach to electrification, prioritising accessibility, affordability and reliability while managing emissions.
With electricity demand in developing countries expected to more than double by 2035, the World Bank is embracing a broader range of energy options, including nuclear, to help countries meet their energy needs in ways that align with national development goals and climate commitments.
