Sydney, June 14 -- A woman has died and a man has been hospitalised after a house fire on Friday night in Sydney in Australia's state of New South Wales (NSW).
The NSW Police said in a statement on Saturday that emergency services were deployed to the fire at a terrace house in Petersham in Sydney's inner-west at about 11:50 p.m. local time on Friday.
Fire and rescue crews worked to extinguish the fire while police evacuated neighboring homes.
The fire was brought under control and a body, believed to be that of an 82-year-old woman, was located inside the building.
A second occupant, a 57-year-old man, was treated at the scene by ambulance paramedics for smoke inhalation before being taken to hospital in a stable condition.
