Chennai, Jan. 8 -- Tamil Nadu Chief Minister and ruling DMK President MK Stalin on Thursdaylaunched the Rs 3,000 cash as a Pongal gift for all the 2.2 rice ration card holders in the state ahead of the Assembly elections due in four months.
In addition to the cash component, Mr Stalin also distributed the usual gift hamper containing raw rice, jaggery, spices and nuts, as well as one full sugarcane to celebrate the traditional four-day harvest festival from January 14 to 17.
Mr Stalin launched the Pongal Rs 3,000 cash component scheme at a fair price shop at suburban Alandur in the presence of his cabinet colleagues.
