Shillong, Sept. 30 -- Winston Tony Lyngdoh of the Voice of the People Party (VPP) today was elected unopposed as the new chief executive member (CEM) of the Khasi Hills Autonomous District Council (KHADC).

The election was necessitated following the resignation of former CEM Shemborlang Rynjah due to health reasons, and saw no opposition candidates come forward to challenge Lyngdoh's nomination.

KHADC Chairman Strong Pillar Kharjana declared Lyngdoh elected as CEM of KHADC during the special session of the Council held today.

Lyngdoh was escorted to the CEM's chair by fellow executive member Powell Sohkhlet and Opposition Leader Titosstarwell Chyne.
