Siliguri, Dec. 25 -- Fifty-two-year-old Pabitra Roy was killed by the attack from a wild elephant, which trampled him in his courtyard at his Falakata village home in the early hours on Thursday, official sources said.

As the victim in a dense foggy weather condition came out of his room and stepped at this courtyard, the lurking pachyderm caught him by its trunk and flung on the floor before stepping on its prey without any provocation, an eyewitness said.

He said the house owner fell prey before coming to know that the wild jumbo was in his courtyard due to poor visibility in the foggy weather condition. Police said the body was sent for post mortem and the stipulated compensation of Rs 2 lakh from the district administration to be paid...
