Vrindavan, Oct. 16 -- Hundreds of women who were living in ashrams after the death of their husbands once again joined in the Diwali celebrations organized specially for them at the historic Gopinath Temple in Vrindavan today.
The programme was organised in the evening by Sulabh International with an aim to bring widows into the mainstream of the society.
For generations, such women in India were seen as "inauspicious" and were traditionally excluded from participating in festivals and other joyous occasions.
