Geneva, May 19 -- The proposed budget of the World Health Organization (WHO) for 2026 and 2027 has been reduced by 21% due to the withdrawal of the United States from the organization, Director-General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus said on Monday.

"This week, you will consider a reduced programme budget of $4.2 billion for the 2026-2027 biennium.

This represents a 21% reduction on the original proposed budget of $5.3 billion," Tedros said in a report to the World Health Assembly.
