London, Nov. 15 -- Nearly half the Western world's confidence in democracy has collapsed, amid the constant wave of misinformation, rise of political and religious extremism, weak elections, and wealth inequality.
The poll - conducted by pollster Ipsos- noted that over 45% of the general public in the US and Europe had little faith in the democratic systems in their own countries, reports Politico.
The poll consisted of 10,000 participants in nine nations, which include the US, Netherlands, Sweden, the UK, Poland, Croatia, France, Italy, and Spain.
Seven reported sweeping discontent among the general public over the state of democracy in their countries, save Poland and Sweden, which displayed strong confidence in their governments.
