Kolkata, Jan. 27 -- Renowned Indian writer Amitav Ghosh says the West has long controlled global culture by creating stories about itself that many people accepted as truth, but those ideas are now coming apart.

Speaking at the Exide Kolkata Literary Meet 2026, Ghosh said Western supremacy over literature and the arts was not accidental but carefully built over decades. "Western world has completely, to an absolutely disproportionate degree, monopolised the arts, monopolised literature, and so on.
