Agartala, Jan. 5 -- The West Agartala police arrested Youth Congress leader Shahjan Islam from the Joypur area, near the Indo-Bangladesh border, on Monday, after he had been evading arrest for the past six months.
Shahjan was wanted in connection with insulting remarks he made against Chief Minister Dr Manik Saha, which allegedly had communal undertones.
According to police, Shahjan fled to Bangladesh following the filing of an FIR, and last night he crossed back into Tripura.
He was reportedly planning to surrender before the court to avoid arrest, but the police acted on specific intelligence to apprehend him.
