New Delhi, Jan. 30 -- As India increasingly experiences climate extremes, from flash floods in some regions to intense cold waves, dry spells, and reduced snowfall in the mountains, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) on Friday said that weather forecasting has become faster and more accurate with the use of automation.
"Automation has reduced forecast preparation time by 50% and improved accuracy by 30%," the IMD said in a press statement.
The achievement was dedicated to the Multi-Hazard Early Warning Decision Support System (MHEW-DSS) developed under the Mission Mausam, officially launched by the then Vice President, Jagdeep Dhankar, on 15 January 2024.
