Kolkata, Sept. 8 -- The West Bengal Council of Higher Secondary Education (WBCHSE) conducted the state's first ever semester format Class 12 board examinations today, marking a major shift in the state's education system.
Around 6.6 lakh students are appearing for the first-semester exams, scheduled from September 8 to 22, across 2,106 centres in 23 districts. Of them, 56.03 per cent are girls. The new format divides Higher Secondary examinations into two phases, September and February replacing the annual system in place since 1978.
The first semester papers, held from 10 a.m. to 11.15 a.m. (11.45 a.m. for music, visual arts, and vocational subjects), are entirely multiple choice based. Question papers were packed in sealed 'non-transpar...
