Kangra, Aug. 16 -- Continuous release of water from Pong Dam for the past six days has triggered flooding in several low-lying villages of Fatehpur and Indora constituencies in Kangra district.

Superintendent of Police Indora Sanjeev Kumar told UNI that the water has entered many houses, while some villages have turned into virtual islands.

He said that standing crops and farmlands have also been washed away by the swelling Beas river on many hectares of the land. Deputy Superintendent of Police further said that despite repeated appeals, many villagers are reluctant to leave their homes and cattle behind.

He said rescue operations are underway, and several families have been shifted to safer places.
